O presidente Jair Bolsonaro, sancionou a Lei 14.207 que denomina Ponte Rondon-Roosevelt a ponte sobre o Rio Madeira, na BR-319, que liga os estados de Rondônia e Amazonas, entre os municípios de Porto Velho (RO) e Humaitá (AM). A lei foi publicada no Diário Oficial da União desta quarta-feira (29).
A norma é originária do projeto de lei (PLS) 270/2014, do então senador de Rondônia Odacir Soares (1938-2019). Quando apresentou a proposta, ele afirmou na justificação que a denominação buscava homenagear os 100 anos da Expedição Rondon-Roosevelt, liderada pelo Marechal Cândido Rondon (1865-1958) e por Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), ex-presidente dos Estados Unidos, com o objetivo de explorar o curso do Rio da Dúvida, tendo por ideia a integração nacional daquelas áreas.
A proposta, quando votada no Senado, ainda em 2015, foi relatada pela então senadora Ana Amélia (PP-RS). Já na Câmara, a matéria foi aprovada em julho deste ano.
